Dense fog engulfed Delhi and surrounding regions on Wednesday morning, reducing visibility to zero and disrupting road, rail, and air travel. The national capital is also expected to receive light rainfall over the next two days due to a western disturbance affecting the Himalayan area.

This comes after Delhi recorded its coldest January in 13 years this month. The average maximum temperature plunged to 17.7 degrees Celsius, the lowest since 2010, while the average minimum dipped to 6.2 degrees Celsius, the second lowest in 13 years as per IMD data.
The severe cold wave conditions persist in the region amid a dense fog spell since late December. On Tuesday, Delhi saw a maximum temperature of 21.4 degrees Celsius, one degree below normal, and a minimum of 8.7 degrees Celsius within the normal range.
According to IMD's All India forecast, dense to very dense fog is expected in the mornings over parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh in the coming days. Similar conditions may arise in Odisha, Rajasthan, West Bengal, and Bihar as well.
Amid two approaching western disturbances, fairly widespread to widespread rain and snowfall is likely in Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand until February 4 before decreasing. Isolated heavy precipitation is forecast in J&K, Himachal, and Uttarakhand over the next few days.

Light to moderate rainfall is predicted in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi on Jan 31st and Feb 1st, along with isolated showers in Uttar Pradesh. Hailstorms may also occur in some northwestern states.
In eastern India, Arunachal Pradesh can expect rain and snow through February 5. Scattered showers are likely in West Bengal, Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, and other Northeast states from Jan 31st to Feb 2nd.
The IMD said minimum temperatures will rise 2 to 4 degrees Celsius over large parts of Northwest and Central India during the next 3 days owing to the western disturbances, providing some respite from the cold wave. But no significant change is expected thereafter.
