Cooler days ahead: IMD forecasts reduction in heatwave severity in next three days

Sirsa in Haryana and Ganganagar in Rajasthan recorded a scorching 45.4 degrees Celsius, followed by Jhansi and Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh at 45.2 degrees Celsius each, and Prithvipur in Madhya Pradesh and Bhiwani in Haryana at 45.1 degrees Celsius.

What IMD said? 

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that heat wave conditions in northwest, central, and eastern India are likely to continue with reduced intensity over the next three days. The maximum temperature in the national capital settled at 42.8 degrees Celsius, which is two notches above the seasonal average. In south Delhi, Aya Nagar recorded 43.4 degrees Celsius, the Ridge area recorded 43.7 degrees Celsius, and Palam recorded 43.5 degrees Celsius.

Rajasthan experienced light rain 

Parts of Rajasthan experienced light rain with thundershowers. The weather department has forecast more light to moderate rain in the Bikaner, Jaipur, Bharatpur, Ajmer, and Jodhpur divisions. Jaipur Meteorological Department Director Radheshyam Sharma stated that maximum temperatures will fall below 45 degrees Celsius in the coming days, bringing relief from the heat wave.

Hot and humid weather for few more days

The weather office also predicted that hot and humid weather is very likely in isolated pockets of Bihar from June 2-4, in Konkan and Goa on June 2-3, and in Odisha on June 5-6. Meanwhile, in other parts of Haryana, Bhiwani recorded a high of 45.1 degrees Celsius, while Rohtak recorded a high of 44.2 degrees Celsius.

Temperature recorded in different parts of country

Ambala recorded a maximum temperature of 42.3 degrees Celsius, Hisar registered a high of 42.7 degrees Celsius, and Gurugram and Faridabad reported temperatures of 42.5 degrees Celsius and 43.9 degrees Celsius, respectively. Chandigarh recorded a high of 42.4 degrees Celsius. In Punjab, Bathinda reached a maximum of 45.1 degrees Celsius, Amritsar recorded 43.5 degrees Celsius, Ludhiana 42.2 degrees Celsius, and Patiala 42.6 degrees Celsius. Gurdaspur recorded 43.4 degrees Celsius, while Faridkot settled at 42.5 degrees Celsius.

Heatwave conditions persisted 

Heat wave conditions persisted in Jammu, where the maximum temperature was 41.6 degrees Celsius, 2.2 notches above the seasonal average. However, the day temperature in Jammu was 1.3 degrees Celsius lower than the previous day. A MeT department spokesperson said the city might see relief from the prevailing conditions after June 4. Hot and dry weather over the plains of the Jammu division is likely to continue until June 4. From June 5-7, Jammu may experience light to moderate rain or thunderstorms with gusty winds in some areas. The weather is expected to remain partly cloudy on June 8 and 9.

In Srinagar, the maximum temperature reached 30.3 degrees Celsius, up from 27.5 degrees Celsius the previous day, which is four degrees above normal.
