CWC meeting: Congress supremo Mallikarjun Kharge has called a Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting today (December 21) with top party members to discuss strategies for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The agenda even includes chalking out seat-sharing plans with allies of the INDIA bloc.
The CWC gathering will also be graced by the presence of Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi and former Chief Rahul Gandhi. Notably, this marks the leadership's first meeting after the recent assembly poll debacle in five states.

Despite disappointing results falling short of expectations, the Congress has maintained that morale remains undented. The party has already conducted an initial analysis into the reasons behind the defeat.
The CWC is likely to hold further discussions and draw lessons.
With the key thrust on caste census failing to strike a chord with voters in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, the leadership looks to evolve a new agenda to challenge the BJP.
The meeting at the All India Congress Committee headquarters comes at a time when the key challenge is to present an alternative positive vision to counter the ruling party in the 2024 polls.
On Wednesday, Sonia Gandhi told MPs that describing the assembly election results as "very disappointing" would be an understatement. Urging them to channel disappointment into positivity for general elections, this marked her first comments on the outcome.
"The Congress President has already reviewed to understand why we performed poorly and draw necessary lessons for our organisation," she added.
Further, she also noted that Lok Sabha elections will be held in the coming months. "We have our task cut out both as a party in our own right and also as a member of the INDIA bloc,” she told the parliamentary members.
Besides today’s meeting, the Congress is also holding a mega rally in Nagpur on its foundation day on December 28th – an effort to boost the morale of party workers ahead of the 2024 electoral battle.
