Maharashtra News: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi condemned Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis's recent remarks linking Gandhi’s display of a red-covered Constitution with Naxalite ideology. Gandhi alleged that Fadnavis and the BJP had insulted Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, the Constitution's principal architect, by dismissing his contributions. Speaking out, Gandhi affirmed Congress’s stance on caste census, vowing that the people of Maharashtra would defend the Constitution.

Rahul Gandhi's Response to BJP's ‘Naxalite’ Claims

Gandhi wrote in Hindi on X (formerly Twitter) that, "BJP’s statement insults Dr. Ambedkar." He argued that promoting caste census aligns with Babasaheb's vision and claimed Maharashtra would resist BJP’s dismissive approach. He further pledged that Congress and the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) would defend the Constitution, stressing that BJP’s opposition would fail.

Fadnavis Accuses Rahul Gandhi of ‘Urban Naxal’ Links

Fadnavis reiterated his accusations, asserting that Gandhi was seeking support from "urban Naxals" by showcasing the "red book" during his rallies. He claimed Gandhi’s display of the red-covered Constitution confirmed his alleged "inclination towards urban Naxals and anarchists."

Congress Counters Fadnavis’s Remarks

Congress spokesperson Jairam Ramesh criticized Fadnavis, emphasizing that the “red book” was the very Constitution authored by Ambedkar, which BJP allegedly continues to undermine. Ramesh accused BJP of hypocrisy, pointing to previous RSS criticism of the Constitution in 1949 and current statements about replacing it. This dispute has intensified political tensions, with both Congress and BJP appealing to their supporters by invoking Dr. Ambedkar’s legacy.
