New Delhi: In a significant development, Congress has named Rahul Gandhi as the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha. This announcement comes just ahead of the crucial Speaker’s election, which will see a contest between candidates from the ruling NDA and the Congress-led INDIA bloc on Wednesday.

Congress Parliamentary Party chief Sonia Gandhi has officially informed Pro-tem Speaker Bhartruhari Mahtab about Rahul Gandhi's new role. This announcement was made by party general secretary KC Venugopal Rao following a meeting of INDIA bloc MPs at Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence.

Opposition strategy meeting

The meeting was convened to discuss the Opposition’s strategy for the ongoing Lok Sabha session and the upcoming vote for the House Speaker. The ruling NDA and the INDIA bloc have both fielded candidates for this position.

Rahul Gandhi’s inside Parliament

Rahul Gandhi, who has been an MP for five terms, currently represents the Rae Bareli constituency in the Lok Sabha. He took oath as an MP on Tuesday, holding a copy of the Constitution, underscoring his commitment to uphold the democratic principles of India.
