Jammu: Congress MLA Tariq Hameed Karra announced on Saturday that statehood belongs to all citizens across Jammu and Kashmir and all political parties need to support the restoration of statehood above their current party differences. Statehood restoration demands united support from every citizen first and foremost since it represents their constitutional rights according to Karra during the budget motion discussion.

The Rs 1.12 lakh crore budget for 2025-26 focuses on multi-sector welfare and development in the Union Territory. Political status as a state belongs to every single citizen of Jammu and Kashmir. Every citizen of Jammu and Kashmir maintains the fundamental right to statehood. We consider this commitment as sacred because it appeared inside the Parliamentary chamber while honoring our national citizenship.
According to the minister the respect and dignity of J-K residents carries more significance than the federal government promise of statehood to the territory.The Congress leader described the current Assembly as an extraordinary house working in extraordinary situations. This isn't a normal house as it used to be before the abrogation of our constitutional guarantees on August 5, 2019. Today, this is a citadel of aspirations for 1.2 crore citizens of J&K, Karra, who is also Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee president, said.
