Parliament’s Privileges Committee on Wednesday has revoked the suspension of Senior Congress leader and Lok Sabha MP, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, after recording his statement. According to the sources, the house unanimously adopted a resolution to revoke the suspension.

According to the sources, the Congress leader recorded his statement before Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi who tabled a motion seeking Chowdhury’s suspension citing disruptive behaviour.

As per information, Chowdhury expresses regret over certain remarks made by him at the house against PM Narendra Modi during the monsoon session. The resolution to suspend Chowdhury from the Lower House was passed by a voice vote.

“The Committee has adopted a resolution to revoke the suspension of Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury from the Lok Sabha. The resolution will be sent to the Speaker as soon as possible,” a committee member said while revoking the suspension.

Here’s what the agenda of Privilege Committee read:

“Oral evidence of Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, MP in connection with motion/resolution adopted by the House on 10 August 2023 leading to his suspension from the service of the House and referring the matter to the Committee of Privileges for further investigation and report to the House,” it reads.

Soon after Lok Sabha panel revoked his suspension, Chowdhury said, “Suspension is not something new in Parliament, but the way it was proposed this time was alien to us.”
