New Delhi: On Thursday, the Congress party organized a significant rally in Kolkata to demand justice for a trainee woman doctor who was allegedly raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. The rally, led by Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, has also been interpreted as a political statement against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC).

The tragic incident has sparked widespread outrage across the nation, prompting multiple rallies in Kolkata. In one such demonstration, hundreds of women participated in the "Angikar Jatra" or "Pledge Journey," carrying placards and banners to demand stringent action against the perpetrators and stronger safety measures for women. Another rally, known as "Pather Daabi" or "Street's Demand," saw diverse groups uniting to voice their anger and call for an end to violence against women.
