Farmers' Protest: The Congress has strongly denounced the recent acts of police brutality against peaceful farmers who were en route to Delhi to advocate for their rights, including a legal guarantee on Minimum Support Price (MSP). Addressing the media at the AICC headquarters, Chairman of All India Kisan Congress, Sukhpal Singh Khaira, reiterated his party's unwavering support for the farmers and their demand for MSP assurance.

Calls for Government Action

Khaira urged the Indian government to acknowledge and address the legitimate grievances of the farmers. These demands, he stressed, had already been acknowledged by the government two years ago when the farmers temporarily suspended their protests at the Delhi borders.

Condemnation of Blockades and Police Actions

Expressing concern over the blockade imposed by the Haryana government to obstruct the farmers' peaceful march, Khaira highlighted the farmers' history of peaceful protests. He cited the example of their year-long demonstration at the Delhi borders, which remained non-violent throughout.

Khaira condemned the reported actions of the Haryana police, accusing them of trespassing into Punjab territory and employing teargas shells on farmers using drones. He underscored the irony of such actions against individuals whose children are serving on the nation's borders, defending the country.

Government's Delayed Response

Khaira criticised the government for its delay in addressing the farmers' demands, despite their patient waiting for two years. He noted that the farmers had given a one-month advance notice before commencing their recent march on February 13. However, he lamented that the government's response seemed to be mere stalling tactics, with assurances of setting up committees or commissions lacking any substantial action.

Commitment to MSP Assurance

The Chairman of Kisan Congress reaffirmed his party's commitment to making the legal guarantee of MSP a central issue in the upcoming General Elections. He pledged that once in power, the Congress would ensure the implementation of MSP assurance for the benefit of the farming community.

As tensions escalate between the farmers and the government, the Congress's stance underscores the importance of addressing the concerns of the agricultural sector, highlighting the urgency for meaningful dialogue and concrete action.
