A powerful cloudburst in the Lahaul-Spiti region has resulted in the tragic loss of a woman, who was swept away by the sudden deluge. The incident occurred along the Darcha-Shinku La road, which has since been closed due to the severe weather event.

The cloudburst triggered a series of flash floods, causing significant damage to the region. The torrential rain led to a rapid rise in water levels, sweeping away the unfortunate woman before rescue teams could reach her. Authorities have been working tirelessly to manage the aftermath, but the road remains impassable, complicating relief efforts.

Meanwhile, the Lahaul & Spiti Police has asked the people to avoid the Darcha Shinkila Road. It informed people through X handle, mentioning, “This is for information to the general public that the old and new bridge situated at around 16 km from Darcha on Darcha Shinkula road has been damaged due to cloudburst, causing the closure of the road. Border Roads Organization (BRO) 108 RCC has informed that the maintenance work will take 2-3 days. Therefore, Darcha to Shinkula road will remain closed for the movement of traffic till the road is restored. It is advised to plan your travel accordingly.”
