The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced plans to conduct Class 10 board exams twice annually starting in 2026, aligning with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Draft Norms and Exam Schedule

The CBSE has finalized draft norms for conducting the exams in two phases: the first from February 17 to March 6, and the second from May 5 to 20. Both exams will cover the full syllabus, and students will be allotted the same exam centers for both sessions. The exam fees will be collected at the time of application filing for both exams.

Feedback and Finalization

The draft norms are now open for public consultation, with stakeholders able to submit feedback until March 9. Following this, the policy will be finalized. This process ensures that all voices are heard before implementing the changes, which aim to provide students with more flexibility and opportunities to improve their scores.

Educational Impact

The biannual exam system aligns with the NEP's goal of reducing the "high stakes" aspect of board exams. By allowing students to take exams twice, the CBSE aims to promote a less stressful learning environment and encourage formative learning over mere exam performance. This approach aligns with global best practices, such as the SAT system in the US, where students can take tests multiple times and submit their best scores.
