Congresswoman Supriya Shrinate clarified on Monday her post on Instagram about Bollywood diva Kangana Ranaut, who is the BJP's candidate for Lok Sabha from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh.

Shrinate clears the air

In a video released by Shrinate, she says, "Many people have access to my Facebook and Instagram accounts. Someone from them made an extremely inappropriate post today. As soon as I came to know, I deleted that post." She further added, "Everyone who knows me, also knows very well that I can never make personal and indecent comments towards any woman. I wanted to know how this happened."

In the video, Shrinate claimed that an X parody account bearing her name was the first to share a picture of the actor with a derogatory message. Someone with access to the same photo thereafter shared it from Shrinate's account.

Ranaut, give it back gracefully

However, Ranaut also responded to the contentious post, in which the four-time National Award winner remarked, "To Shrinate," "Dear Supriya ji, in the last 20 years of my career as an artist, I have played all kinds of women. From a naive girl in Queen to a seductive spy in Dhaakad, from a goddess in Manikarnika to a demon in Chandramukhi, from a prostitute in Rajjo to a revolutionary leader in Thalaivii,

Ranaut further added, "We must free our daughters from the shackles of prejudice; we must rise above the curiosity about their body parts; and above all, we must refrain from using sex workers challenging lives or circumstances as some kind of abuse or slur... every woman deserves her dignity."

Outrage was on!

Leaders of the BJP are also furious with Shrinate. In a post on X, Shehzad Poonawala, the spokesperson for the saffron party, questioned whether Mallikarjun Kharge would fire Shrinate or if Priyanka Gandhi would raise this matter. "Where is the lobby now for 'Hathras'? He went on, "First they justified Sandeshkhali, then Lal Singh receiving a ticket from the Congress, and now this."
