New Delhi: In a significant development, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) is likely to take charge of security at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, along with its resident doctors' hostel. As per sources, the decision follows a recent court order directing enhanced security measures at the hospital premises.
Senior CISF officials, along with local police and hospital administration, conducted a comprehensive security review at the hospital. The nodal officer overseeing this coordination is an Inspector General (IG) ranked officer, who manages sectors in West Bengal and parts of Odisha. The officer is working closely with the hospital administration, local police, and state administration to finalize the security arrangements.
CISF headquaters take charge
Once the CISF headquarters receives the detailed report from the nodal officer, a decision will be made regarding the number of units to be deployed at both the hospital and the hostel. The deployment will involve the placement of trained CISF personnel, ensuring top-tier security while allowing the hospital administration to handle entry management.
Given that RG Kar Hospital is a major medical facility, the CISF will have complete responsibility for overall security, including ensuring safety and managing potential threats. However, the hospital's administration will retain control over patient and visitor access. This move is expected to bolster the safety of the hospital staff, patients, and resident doctors while alleviating concerns regarding security lapses in such a critical public institution.
