Mithun Chakraborty controversial remarks in West Bengal: In a powerful rally speech, renowned actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty delivered an intense message on the political stage in West Bengal. Following BJP’s recent setback in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited Kolkata to boost morale ahead of upcoming by-elections for six assembly seats. Chakraborty, 74, did not hold back, proclaiming the BJP’s commitment to “doing anything to win Bengal” and asserting that a BJP government would take power after the 2026 assembly elections.

Chakraborty’s controversial statement amid election tensions

During his speech, Chakraborty responded to controversial remarks made by Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Kabir, who, while campaigning for a TMC candidate in Murshidabad, allegedly said, “We are 70% here; you are 30%. We’ll drown you in Bhagirathi if you challenge us.” Chakraborty retaliated, saying, “We will not drown you, but we will bury you on your own land.” His statement aimed to counter what he saw as divisive language in the state’s political discourse.

'We will do anything to save Bhagirathi'

Chakraborty declared, “I may not be the Chief Minister, but I am saying this: We will do anything to save Bengal and Bhagirathi, our mother.” Addressing the rally with Amit Shah present, he further added, “We need workers who will stand up without fear, those who can say, ‘Shoot me!’ rather than stand up for money.”

How did TMC respond?

Chakraborty emphasized the need for committed party workers, criticizing those who “stand up for money” and asserting that “if one of our fruits is taken, we’ll take four from theirs.” His fiery speech, however, was met with criticism from the TMC. Party General Secretary Jai Prakash Majumdar dismissed Chakraborty’s statements as inconsequential, stating, “No one takes him seriously as a political leader,” and pointing out that the Election Commission had condemned Kabir’s comments.
