Fatal bus accident in Durg, 13 dead, 13 injured as bus falls into soil mine pit

Tragedy struck as a bus carrying employees of a private firm met with a fatal accident in Chhattisgarh's Durg district on Tuesday night, resulting in the loss of at least 12 lives and leaving 14 others injured. The unfortunate incident occurred around 8:30 pm near Khapri village under Kumhari Police Station limits. The victims, all workers returning home after a day's work at a distillery, faced this devastating accident, as confirmed by Durg Superintendent of Police Jitendra Shukla.

Fatal plunge into a 'murum' mine

Preliminary reports suggest that the bus, with over 30 passengers on board, veered off the road and fell into a 40 feet deep 'murum' soil mine. "12 people, including three women, were killed in the accident," stated Shukla, revising the earlier reported death toll of 15 individuals.

'Murum' soil, primarily used in construction, played a tragic role in this incident, highlighting the perilous conditions of the accident site.

Rescue efforts and medical attention

Upon receiving the distressing news, a police team swiftly reached the scene, initiating a rescue operation. The injured victims were promptly transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment, according to an official familiar with the situation.

Condolences from the CM

Reacting to the tragedy, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai conveyed his deep sorrow and offered condolences to the families of the deceased. "I pray that the departed souls rest in peace and extend my heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family members," expressed CM Sai, assuring that necessary arrangements have been made for the medical care of the injured individuals.
