Naxals killed in encounter (ANI)

In a significant operation on the Dantewada-Bijapur border in Chhattisgarh, security forces have successfully neutralized nine Naxals during an intense encounter on Tuesday. The operation, which was conducted in the dense forest area, led to the recovery of several automatic weapons from the insurgents, marking a critical blow to the Naxalite movement in the region.

Details of the Encounter

According to police sources, the operation began after a joint police team received credible intelligence regarding the presence of Maoists from the West Bastar Division in the border area of Dantewada and Bijapur districts. The encounter commenced at approximately 10:30 AM, with security forces engaging in a fierce gun battle with the Naxals. Despite the intensity of the conflict, all security personnel involved in the operation emerged unscathed.

Dantewada Superintendent of Police, Gaurav Rai, confirmed the seizure of a significant cache of weapons, including SLR rifles, .303 rifles, and .315 bore rifles, from the Naxals. Search operations are still underway in the area, and a comprehensive report will be released once the operation is fully concluded.

Recent Operations Against Naxalism

This successful operation follows a similar encounter on August 29, where three women Naxalites were killed by security forces in the dense forests of Abujhmad, Narayanpur. These Naxalites were identified as members of the North Bastar Division Committee and the PLGA Company number 5. The joint operation involved the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force (STF), and Border Security Force, leading to the recovery of weapons, including a .303 rifle and .315 bore guns, along with other Naxal materials.

Government’s Stand on Naxal Insurgency

On August 24, Union Home Minister Amit Shah reiterated the government's commitment to eradicating Naxalism by March 2026. Speaking at an inter-state coordination meeting with Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Shah reviewed the anti-Naxal measures and infrastructure development in Red Corridor regions across nine states impacted by Left Wing Extremism (LWE).
