Chennai: Mother-in-law, sister compel 14-year old into prostitution (anna/Pinterest)
New Delhi: A shocking incident has come to light from Tamil Nadu's Chennai where a sister forced a 14-year-old younger sister into prostitution. Both the girls lived in Chemmencheri and moved to Paduvanchery to live with her sister. According to the police, the mother-in-law and sister forced her into prostitution. They used to take her to several locations including KK Nagar and Chengalpattu in Chennai.
The police have arrested six people and detained two others for forcing a minor girl into prostitution. The girl's sister was among these people who were arrested by police.
Following the lead and a tip-off from a child welfare committee in Chengalpattu, a specialized team from Selaiyur All Women Police was quickly formed. It leads to the successful rescue of the girl. On the basis of call records and investigation, the police arrested six people namely Lakshmi, Prakash, Damodharan, Kavita, Karpagam and Srinivasan.
Police have apprehended two more persons of interest and are conducting further questioning to determine their involvement in the case. The case is still under investigation.
Recently seven suspects from Chennai have been apprehended for their alleged involvement in compelling minor girls into prostitution in May.
Sources reveal that K Nadhiya, the primary suspect, allegedly exploited her daughter's classmates by gaining their trust in the form of offering beautician training, thereby manipulating them into a false sense of friendship.
According to reports, she allegedly took advantage of the children's financial background by offering them amounts ranging from Rs 25,000 to Rs 35,000 and pressured them into engaging in prostitution with older men, primarily from Hyderabad and Coimbatore.
