New Delhi: Following heavy rain that battered the city on Wednesday evening, many low-lying neighborhoods of Delhi-NCR (National Capital Region) were submerged under water, severely impairing traffic flow and daily life. Because of the bad weather, ten aircraft from Delhi were rerouted to different places.

Extended lines of cars were observed on several important thoroughfares, including the Mathura Road and the Delhi-Noida Expressway, as well as important sites like Sarai Kale Khan, AIIMS, and ITO. The Pragati Maidan observatory in central Delhi recorded 112.5 mm of rainfall in one hour, according to the India Meteorological Department. An hour of rain with more than 100 mm is typically referred to as a "cloudburst."

The weather turns into trouble

On the other hand, this has not received formal confirmation. The weather department stated that Delhi was included as one of the "areas of concern" in the National Flash Flood Guidance Bulletin.
In the article on X, he stated, "They are encouraged to specifically solve difficulties at areas prone to waterlogging, including coaching centers, in addition to guaranteeing minimum inconvenience to people in general."  Minister Atishi of Delhi declared that efforts are being made to rectify the issue by the Municipal Corporation and other government authorities.

Among the regions under water is Old Rajinder Nagar, where a flood in their institute's basement claimed the lives of three IAS candidates. As the streets flooded, a sizable group of students demonstrated in Old Rajinder Nagar, standing in water up to their thighs.

The traffic police encouraged commuters to avoid particular roads and provided directions as the passage of vehicles was impeded in several regions. Both carriageways on Anuvrat Marg and the carriageway leading from Moolchand to Chirag, Delhi, had traffic disruptions. Waterlogging under the Savitri flyover on the Outer Ring Road affected the roadway from Chirag, Delhi, towards Nehru Place.

Traffic problem raises concerns

Traffic was being rerouted from Lothian Road and the Chatta Rail red signal at Chatta Rail Chowk, causing disruptions to Syama Prasad Mukherjee Marg. Travelers heading towards ISBT Kashmiri Gate from NS Marg are advised to use Kodia Pul and Mori Gate Boulevard Road. Mahatma Gandhi Marg traffic was also impacted by the waterlogging at Nigam Bodh Ghat.

Due to poor weather and heavy rain, ten planes from Delhi Airport were diverted to other places in a half-hour, between 7.30 and 8.00 pm. More intense rain is expected, thus the India Meteorological Department has issued a red signal for the National Capital Region (NCR) of Delhi. The most recent forecast states that "clouds have converged over Delhi from all four sectors," meaning that moderate to heavy rain is predicted in the next few hours in Delhi, Noida, Gurgaon, and Ghaziabad. Expect the wind to blow between 30 and 50 km/h.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) stated in the evening that "moderate rainfall associated by moderate thunderstorms and lightning is likely to occur at North Delhi, Central Delhi, New Delhi, South Delhi, South-East Delhi, East Delhi, and NCR in the next two hours."
