Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chairman S Somanath on Monday announced that Chandrayaan-3 is expected to launch in July, this year. The announcement by the chief was made following the successful launch of GSLV-F12 today from Sriharikota.

According to the sources, the ISRO chairman said, “The lesson is very simple. Learn from the past, and do what is possible with your capacity. Failures may happen. there are a thousand reasons for a rocket to fail. Even today, the mission could have failed. but we have to do what is needed to be done.”

The third edition to India’s mission to the moon is a follow-up of Chandrayaan-2 to demonstrate end-to-end capability in safe landing and roving on the lunar surface. The mission will be launched by LVM3 from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.

The project intends to create and showcase fresh technology needed for intra-planetary missions. The lander will be able to soft-land at a chosen location on the moon and release the rover, which will do an unchanged chemical analysis of the lunar surface as it is moving.

Reportedly, the lunar exploration programme is part of an ongoing mission by ISRO.

However, Chandrayaan-2’s lander “crash-landed” on the moon’s surface on September 6, 2019, when it diverted from its route while attempting to land as a result of a software malfunction. Chandrayaan-2 was successfully launched and sent into lunar orbit in 2019.

The ISRO’s continuing Chandrayaan lunar space exploration programme is a series of missions. In 2008–2009, Chandrayaan-1, ISRO’s first lunar probe, discovered water. In August 2019, Chandrayaan-2 was successfully placed into orbit after being launched in July 2019. However, after losing contact with the ground stations, the minute’s lander crash-landed on the moon.

Apart from this, the ISRO chairman also congratulated the team for the successful launch of NVS-01. Meanwhile, he also mentioned that the mission was accomplished after rectifying the errors during the last mission.
