On Saturday, August 26, a fierce verbal battle between the BJP and the Congress broke out when PM Narendra Modi referred to Chandrayaan-3’s lunar touchdown as ‘Shiv Shakti Point.’

Rashid Alvi, a senior member of the Congress, said the name is absurd since PM Modi has no jurisdiction to name the lunar surface. “Everyone will be amused. Who has granted PM Modi the authority to identify a lunar location. We’ve landed, which is excellent. Without a doubt, we are proud of it. However, we do not own the moon or the point, Rashid Alvi declared in one of the interviews, to which the retort ‘Jawahar point’ was made.

Alvi, further stated that “Nothing can compare to Jawaharlal Nehru. Jawaharlal Nehru is solely responsible for whatever ISRO has become. ISRO was established in 1962 by Vikram Sarabhai and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Therefore, it may be said that Pandit Nehru founded everything. That is a very different situation. However, Modi is now politicalising the situation.”

Hitting out on the remarks by Congress leader, BJP’s national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala tweeted, and said, if it had been UPA government, they would have named it after Indira point or Rajiv point. Notably, ‘Jawahar point’ was named when Chandrayaan-1 landed on the Moon. The tweet reads:
