Everybody is celebrating the happiness after India’s moon mission Chandrayaan-3 did historic soft landing on the Moon on August 23, Wednesday and has opened up new directions for space exploration. Notably, India is the first nation to have ever reached the lunar south pole of the Moon, and put our nation among a selected group of countries to land a spacecraft on the Earth’s natural satellite.

It took almost four years of planning and hard work behind the science involved in the success of the Chandrayaan-3. The monumental feat has been achieved after Chandrayaan-2 got failed in 2019, which left the nation downhearted.

Who is Kalpana Kalahasti?

Many scientists have worked day and night to make this mission a success. The list includes the name of Kalpana Kalahasti who worked as Associate Project Director in the mission. The second in-command in the project to keep check on every second.

After earning a B.Tech., Kalpana Kalahasti joined ISRO as a scientist. Soon, after spending first five years working in Sriharikota, she moved to a Bangalore satellite Centre in 2005, where she continued to work. Additionally, she was involved in the creation of five satellites.

Kalahasti also participated in Chandrayaan-2 in 2019 when it was launched from the Sriharikota Rocket Centre. She now holds the position of Associate Director for the Chandrayaan-3 Project.

After the accomplishment of the mission Chandrayaan-3, Kalpana Kalahasti Associate Project Director, said, “This will remain the most memorable moment for team Chandrayaan-3. From the day we started rebuilding our spacecraft after Chandrayaan-2, we have been breathing in and breathing out Chandrayaan-3”.

In addition to all the members of the mission, project director P Veeramuthuvel, mission operations director Srikant, and director of UR Rao Satellite Centre M. Sankaran played an important role at ISRO.
