ISRO counts down to launch of the Chandrayaan-3 mission today

With just a few hours left till the launch of Chandrayaan-3, India’s third lunar exploration mission, which will be carried out by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Friday.

At 2.30 PM, the GSLV Mark 3 (LVM 3) heavy-lift launch vehicle, which will send the lunar lander and rover into orbit, will take off from Andhra Pradesh’s Sriharikota’s Satish Dhawan Space Centre. The launch countdown commenced on Thursday at 14:35:17 IST.

A ‘Launch Rehearsal’ replicating the entire launch preparation and process had already been completed earlier by ISRO. A lander, a rover, and a propulsion module weight around 3,900 kilograms will be equipped in ‘Chandrayaan-3’.

Here, the Director of Indian Space and Research Organisation (ISRO), S Somnath, earlier informed that if everything goes well, the spacecraft will land on the moon on August 23. Notably, the date has been decided according to the sunrise on the moon, adding to it, he said, “If it gets delayed, the landing may take next month.”
