Ahead of Chandrayaan-3’s soft landing scheduled for tomorrow (August 23) on the Moon’s surface, a senior India Space Research Organisation (ISRO) scientist said that the national space agency will only go ahead with the landing if the conditions will be favourable on the day, otherwise, they will reschedule the landing on August 27.
Speaking to the news agency on Monday, Nilesh M Desai, Director of, the Space Applications Centre of ISRO said, “Two hours before Chandrayaan-3 lands on the Moon, we will decide on whether or not it will be appropriate to land it at that time based on the health of the lander module and the conditions on the Moon. In case, if any factor appears to be not favourable, then we will land the module on the Moon on August 27.”

However, the top official also expressed his confidence that lander Vikram will reach the Moon’s surface as per the original schedule.
Notably, Vikram’s landing will be attempted a little after 6 pm on August 23 (Wednesday), said the ISRO earlier. If the lander will successfully reach the lunar surface, then India will enter an elite list, becoming only the fourth country to achieve a soft landing on the Moon, joining the United States, Russia, and China.
Meanwhile, Russia’s fresh attempt – Luna-25 faced a failure in reaching the Moon. So, India has an opportunity to become the first country to achieve a soft landing on the Moon’s south pole, which is Chandrayaan-3’s intended destination.
On July 14, India’s Chandrayaan-3 took off from ISRO’s Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDCC) in Andhra Pradesh’s Sriharikota.
