ISRO in its latest tweet mentioned, “The spacecraft has covered about two-thirds of the distance to the moon. Lunar Orbit Injection (LOI) set for Aug 5, 2023, around 19:00 Hrs. IST.”

Chandrayaan-3, which is India’s third lunar mission, was launched on GSLV Mark 3 (LVM 3) heavy-lift launch vehicle successfully from the Andhra Pradesh’s Satish Dhawan Space Centre on July 14 and has covered about two-thirds of the distance to the Moon.

After demonstrating its safe and soft landing on the moon India will make it to be the fourth country after US, China, and Russia, to land its spacecraft on the surface of the moon. According to the updates by ISRO, the spacecraft is currently undergoing a series of orbit manoeuvres to reach the moon’s orbit.

The scientists of Chandrayaan-3 have claimed that it will take about 33 days from the launch date to reach the orbit of the moon. After making a soft landing on moon, it will operate for one lunar day, which is approximately 14 Earth days.

Chandrayaan-3 has been launched with the objectives of safe and soft landing, rover roving on the moon’s surface, and in-situ (in the original place) scientific experiments. Chandrayaan-3 is the follow up attempt after Chandrayaan-2 mission faced challenges during its soft landing in 2019.
