On Tuesday, a judge dismissed former Chief Minister of Telangana N. Chandrababu Naidu‘s request for home custody. Naidu was detained last week in connection with an alleged multi-million-dollar scam.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Court in Vijayawada agreed with the CID’s argument in the case on Tuesday and rejected Chandrababu Naidu’s request for home remand.

N Chandrababu, the leader of the Telugu Desam Party, was detained on Saturday. According to Andhra Pradesh CID Chief N Sanjay, he was detained in connection with a fraud case involving the theft of cash from the Skill Development Corporation, which cost the state government Rs 300 crore. A Vijayawada local court put Naidu in detention for 14 days on Sunday.

The former chief minister is being held in the East Godavari district’s Rajamahendravaram Central Prison. Considering the alleged danger to his life, the ACB Court instructed the superintendent of Rajamahendravaram Central Prison to house the 73-year-old Naidu separately. The former CM is a security protected by the Z-plus category.

TDP in danger?

All 19 of the Telugu Desam Party‘s (TDP) MLAs were placed under house arrest by the Andhra Pradesh police prior to the judgment.

To avoid any potential law and order issues in the state, these legislators were also forbidden from meeting with other party members or their relatives.

Luthra, Naidu’s attorney, questioned the steps taken to ensure his safety while incarcerated.

He emphasised that prisoners in jail are those found guilty of major offenses. To bolster his claims, Luthra cited Supreme Court decisions granting house custody in a variety of cases.

The High Court has received a petition for Naidu’s bail. Tomorrow is the court date for the bail plea.
