Chandigarh Mayor Elections: The INDIA bloc, comprising leaders from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress, launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for alleged acts of treason and unconstitutional meddling in the Chandigarh Mayor elections. In a joint press conference, the leaders termed the election as an unconstitutional and illegal fraud orchestrated by the BJP.

Chadha Unveils Alleged BJP Conspiracy

AAP's Rajya Sabha member, Raghav Chadha, asserted that the Chandigarh mayoral election was a 'farjiwada' (fraud) executed by the BJP. He deemed it unconstitutional, illegal, anti-national, and an act of treason. Chadha claimed that the BJP conspired against democracy to secure victory, emphasizing the INDIA bloc's strength of 20 votes against BJP's 16.

Irregularities in Election Process

Chadha highlighted various irregularities, including the postponement of the election, alleged poaching attempts by BJP, and the appointment of Anil Masih, a BJP member, as the new presiding officer. He accused Masih of tampering with ballot papers during counting, resulting in eight out of 20 votes from the INDIA alliance being declared invalid.

Demand for Action Against Presiding Officer

Chadha called for the immediate arrest of presiding officer Anil Masih, alleging that those responsible for undermining democracy have no right to roam freely. He accused Masih of tampering with ballot papers to invalidate votes of the INDIA alliance.

BJP's Unwarranted Actions Criticized

Congress leader Pawan Bansal condemned what he termed as BJP's 'Jangle Raj.' He accused the BJP of resorting to unimaginative actions to win the election, including postponement, poaching attempts, and appointing a BJP member as the presiding officer. Bansal emphasized that the media was not allowed to cover the election, deeming it a "disgusting joke" by the BJP.

Future Implications and Appeal to Voters

Chadha expressed concern about BJP's actions in a mayoral election and speculated about their approach in general elections. He warned that the BJP aims to turn India into North Korea, manipulating the electoral system to secure victories. He called on people to vote in 2024 not merely to win or defeat but to safeguard democracy.

BJP Responds to Accusations

Chadha responded to BJP's Kirron Kher, stating that the BJP had indeed created history—history of murdering democracy and the constitution through alleged fraud in the Chandigarh Mayor election.

Final Thoughts and Urgency for Action

Chadha emphasized that the BJP's alleged unconstitutional tactics reveal their fear of the INDIA alliance. He urged prompt action to restore faith in the electoral process and democracy, stressing the importance of learning from the incident.

As accusations fly, the Chandigarh Mayor elections remain mired in controversy, with the INDIA bloc accusing the BJP of undermining democratic principles.
