New Delhi: Central Government established a one-member committee to examine the candidature claims and other pertinent details of IAS officer Puja Manorma Dilip Khedkar. This decision, announced by the Ministry of Personnel, aims to address the allegations surrounding the officer's conduct and qualifications. The committee, led by an Additional Secretary to the Government of India, is expected to submit its findings within two weeks.
Puja Khedkar, a probationary IAS officer in Maharashtra, has come under scrutiny for alleged misuse of power. Her controversial actions led to her transfer from Pune to Washim. Khedkar was reportedly using a private Audi car equipped with a siren and VIP number plate—privileges typically reserved for senior officials.
Puja Khedkar is a member of the 2023 batch of IAS officers, securing an all-India rank (AIR) of 841 in the Civil Services Examination. She hails from a family with a history of public service; her father, Dilip Khedkar, is a retired administrative officer. Despite her promising career, Khedkar's recent behavior has attracted significant attention.
The controversy centers on Khedkar's use of a private Audi luxury sedan, which was adorned with a "Government of Maharashtra" sticker and a red-blue beacon in Pune. Reports suggest that even before assuming the role of assistant collector, she requested official perks such as a vehicle with a VIP number plate, official accommodation, a designated office with adequate staff, and a constable. These benefits are not typically provided to trainee officers, raising questions about her conduct.
The committee's primary role is to verify Khedkar's candidature and other claims related to her selection and conduct. The findings will be crucial in determining the appropriate course of action and ensuring transparency and accountability within the civil services.
As the investigation unfolds, the government's swift response underscores its commitment to upholding the integrity of the civil services. The outcome of this inquiry will be closely watched, given the implications for governance and public trust.
