Centre elevates key officials, including ED's Acting Director, to Additional Secretary role

In a notable development, the Central government has decided to elevate the status of 11 bureaucrats, including the acting director of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Rahul Navin, to the esteemed position of Additional Secretary.

Top-Level Nod from Appointments Committee of Cabinet

The decision, greenlit by the Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC), led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, grants in-situ upgradation to these officers. The move involves temporarily upgrading the posts they currently hold, marking a personal recognition of their contributions.

Rahul Navin Takes the Helm as Acting ED Director

Rahul Navin, a seasoned 1993 batch IRS officer and the present Special Director in the Enforcement Directorate, has been appointed as the acting director of the ED. He assumed the role after Sanjay Kumar Mishra's tenure concluded in September last year, adhering to the Supreme Court's stipulated deadline.

Navin will continue in the acting director capacity until the appointment of a regular director or until further orders from the government.

Comprehensive List of Upgraded Officials

The government has also upgraded the posts of several other bureaucrats to the role of Additional Secretary across various departments. Notable names include Shubha Thakur, Sanjukta Mudgal, Anant Swarup, Navaljit Kapoor, Manoj Pandey, Anurag Bajpai, Alok Pande, Sunil Kumar, Hanif Qureshi, and Anandrao Vishnu Patil.

These officials will assume the Additional Secretary position in different departments such as Agriculture, Culture, Commerce, Tribal Affairs, Corporate Affairs, Defence Production, Investment and Public Asset Management, Science and Technology, Heavy Industries, and School Education and Literacy.

Further Promotions

The ACC has extended promotions to seven other officers deployed across diverse ministries and departments. Sanjeev Kumar Jindal is appointed as Additional Secretary in the Department of Home within the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Additionally, Asit Gopal, Tripti Gurha, Samir Kumar Sinha, Bharat Harbanslal Khera, Chandra Bhushan Kumar, and Puja Singh Mandol are promoted to the Additional Secretary position in Ministries of Textiles, Women and Child Development, Defence, Consumer Affairs, Drinking Water and Sanitation, and Statistics and Programme Implementation, respectively.
