New Delhi: In tragic turn of events, senior officials from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) visited Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on Wednesday to assess the premises. The CISF has been assigned to take charge of security at the state-run hospital following a recent incident of vandalism, which occurred after the alleged rape and murder of a 31-year-old doctor. This incident has sparked widespread outrage and concern across the country.

CISF takes charge

A senior CISF officer, K Pratap Singh visited the hospital this morning and briefly addressed the media, saying, "Let us do our job. We have come here for some assignment. Let us finish our work, then senior officers will brief you. I am doing my job mandated by higher authorities."

This visit was part of a reconnaissance effort by the central force, which comes a day after the Supreme Court questioned the city police's handling of a mob that stormed the hospital on August 15, causing damage to medical equipment and supplies on two floors. The mob violence occurred during a 'reclaim the night' protest in Kolkata and other cities, seeking justice for the murdered doctor.

SC slams state over hospital vandalism

The Supreme Court said on Tuesday, "We are unable to comprehend how the State was not prepared to deal with the incident of vandalization of the premises of the hospital." This means the court was surprised that the state government didn't prevent the hospital damage. Most doctors left the hospital after the August 15 violence.

The court wants a safe environment so doctors can come back and help patients. To do this, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta promised that central forces will protect the hospital. Kapil Sibal, the lawyer for the West Bengal government, agreed with this plan.

At the hospital, a large protest is taking place to call for justice for the victim of the tragic rape murder.

CBI questions ex-principal for sixth time

Sandip Ghosh, the former head of RG Kar Medical College, went to the CBI office in Kolkata on Wednesday morning for more questioning. He's being investigated for how he handled things after a doctor's body was found on August 9. Sandip Ghosh didn't answer any questions from the media. He's already been questioned for a total of 64 hours over the past five days, according to CBI officials.

The Bengal government has also formed a special team to look into claims of financial wrongdoing during Sandip Ghosh's time as head of the college.
