In an effort to engage Muslim women, particularly during the festival of Raksha Bandhan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked National Democratic Alliance (NDA) MPs to celebrate the festival with them, this year. According to PM Modi, this outreach will be a response to his government’s decision to outlaw triple talaq, which he claims has increased sense of security and faith of Muslim women.

Rakshan Bandhan is a celebration of the bond between brothers and sisters, will fall on August 30 this year.

PM Modi made the statement during the meeting with 338 NDA MPs, on Monday night during a gathering of NDA MPs from Odisha, West Bengal, and Jharkhand. According to the information, the talks were being held in preparation for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections to increase synergy within the coalition, which has grown to include 38 parties.

As per the statement by one of the MP who was present during the meeting, the decision has been taken by PM Modi to reach and connect with all the sections of the society.

The outreach to Muslim women is also been clubbed with the inclusion of Pasmanda Muslims in BJP, alongside the appointment of former Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Vice Chancellor, Tariq Mansoor, as a national vice president of the party last week. Noteworthy is, the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill was passed by Parliament in 2019, declaring the practice of instant triple talaq illegal and a crime that could attract a jail term for the husband.

Reports also claim that BJP has divided the MPs into clusters of 40, with whom PM Modi is expected to speak separately. In addition to this, discussion on the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections was also held.
