CBSE proposes Open Book Exams (X)
New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has firmly denied reports claiming significant changes in its examination system for Classes 10 and 12. On Thursday, the board clarified that there is no plan to reduce the syllabus by 15%, introduce open-book exams, or increase the internal assessment weightage.
The board issued an official statement refuting unverified news circulated online. CBSE urged students, parents, and the public to rely only on updates shared through its official website.
The false reports alleged that CBSE regional officer for Bhopal, Vikas Kumar Agrawal, had announced these changes during a summit in Indore. These changes, purportedly set to begin in 2025, were aimed at reducing student stress and aligning with the New Education Policy's (NEP) holistic approach.
However, CBSE clarified that no such announcement has been made. The statement, signed by Vikas Kumar Agrawal, categorically stated: “CBSE has not made any such change in its examination system and internal evaluation system, nor has any official information been issued in this regard.”
CBSE confirmed that the current single-term examination format will continue for Classes 10 and 12 in the 2024-25 academic session. The board also reiterated plans to reintroduce the two-term format starting from the 2025-26 session but assured stakeholders that the upcoming exams would remain unaffected.
This decision aligns with CBSE's long-term goal to create a more adaptive and student-centered evaluation process while maintaining consistency for the immediate future.
The board emphasized the importance of verifying news through its official communication channels and avoiding reliance on unverified information. CBSE strongly encouraged regular checks of its website for accurate updates and circulars.
