About CBI

It should be noted that the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Government of India issued a resolution on April 1, 1963, which founded the CBI. Initially established to look into bribery and official corruption, its jurisdiction was enlarged in 1965 to include looking into violations of central laws enforced by the Government of India, multi-state organised crime, multi-agency crimes, and foreign cases. The CBI headquarters are at New Delhi’s CGO Complex, close to the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

Powers of CBI

The Central Bureau of Investigation can investigate only with notification by the central government. The High Courts and the Supreme Court have the jurisdiction to order a CBI investigation into an offense alleged to have been committed in a state without the state’s consent.
