CBI Submits Report on Sushant Singh Rajput's Death (file)
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed its report in the case of the death of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput in a special court in Mumbai. The court will now determine if it will accept the report or order further investigation by the agency. This is a major milestone in the investigation that has been pending for years.
Rajput's death was first declared as a suicide by the Mumbai Police, without any evidence of forced entry or resistance. But his family lodged an FIR in Patna against Rhea Chakraborty and others, accusing them of abetment to suicide, theft, and wrongful detention. This resulted in a jurisdictional dispute between the Bihar Police and the Mumbai Police, for which the central government authorized a CBI probe [1).
The CBI began the inquiry, with the Supreme Court of India directing the agency to investigate and granting the agency full authority to conduct the investigation. The AIIMS forensic experts dismissed accusations of "strangulation and poisoning" raised in the case, giving the CBI an important medico-legal opinion [1).
The Mumbai special court will now read the CBI report and determine the way forward. While some think the end of the probe could be signaled by the report, others are praying that more questions would still be asked to know the truth about the death of Rajput.
