A heart-wrenching incident has emerged from Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, where a young girl took a drastic step after being reprimanded by her elder sister for being with her lover. Feeling ashamed and distressed, she poured kerosene on herself and set herself on fire. Her family rushed her to a hospital in Kanpur, but despite their efforts, she succumbed to her injuries. The tragedy struck just six days before her elder sister’s wedding, turning a household filled with wedding celebrations into a place of mourning.

Family devastated by the tragic incident

The incident took place in a village under Unnao police station limits. The deceased, who lost her parents years ago, had been living with her grandmother along with her elder sister and brother for the past ten years. According to her brother, she was in a relationship with a young man from the same village. On Tuesday afternoon, the boy entered their house. Hearing his voice, the elder sister locked the door from outside, forcing him to escape in haste. Following this, the elder sister scolded her younger sibling for her actions.

Overwhelmed by shame, girl takes extreme step

Deeply hurt by her sister’s rebuke, the girl doused herself in kerosene later that evening and set herself ablaze. Family members rushed to extinguish the fire and immediately took her to Ursula Hospital in Kanpur. However, on Wednesday morning, she succumbed to her injuries. The tragic incident, occurring just days before the elder sister’s wedding, left the entire family in shock. Upon receiving the information, police reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem examination.

Bulandshahr: Another suicide due to blackmail

In another distressing incident from Bulandshahr, a 22-year-old woman set herself on fire after her wedding was called off. She was allegedly being blackmailed by an obsessed lover who had illicit photos and videos of her. The accused had already extorted INR 2 lakh from her. The matter came to light after her death, and the police have taken custody of the body for a post-mortem.
