New Delhi: A video showing two young women consuming drugs in a washroom has gone viral on social media, causing a stir in Pune. The incident reportedly took place at Phoenix Marketcity in Viman Nagar. The video captures a tense moment when an older woman confronts the two young women in the washroom. As the older woman records the scene, she orders the young woman to step outside.

The young woman, visibly flustered, asks her to stop recording. One of them pleads, "Two minutes, we are coming. We are not running away from here." The older woman firmly responds, "Why should I stop taking the video? I request you to come outside."

Previous incident at Liquid Leisure Lounge

This incident follows closely on the heels of another viral video that surfaced just a day earlier. The earlier video showed a group of youths with a drug-like substance at the Liquid Leisure Lounge (L3) on Pune's Fergusson College Road. The footage depicted the youths in possession of a powdery substance while others danced to loud music.

Police arrests accused

In response to the video from Liquid Leisure Lounge, the police launched an investigation. This probe has so far resulted in the arrest of eight individuals and the suspension of five police personnel. The arrested individuals have been charged under various laws, including the Indian Penal Code section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by a public servant) and relevant provisions of the Maharashtra Police Act, Maharashtra Prohibition Act, and the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act.

Crackdown on illegal establishments

In the wake of these incidents, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated a crackdown on illegal bars, pubs, and restaurants. As part of this aggressive campaign, the PMC has demolished, either fully or partially, around 35 establishments found to be violating various rules and regulations. The demolition drive, supported by a large police presence, began on Tuesday and continued into Wednesday, targeting venues that blatantly flouted PMC's rules.

Context of the crackdown

The PMC's rigorous enforcement actions follow a series of troubling events in Pune. The crackdown on illegal establishments gained momentum after a Porsche car hit-and-run accident on May 19.
