Cash on the Move? Railways Trials ATM on Mumbai-Manmad Route

Indian Railways has taken a groundbreaking step by installing an ATM on the Panchavati Express, operating between Mumbai and Manmad, as part of an experimental initiative launched on April 16, 2025.

From comfortable chairs to mobile phone charging and lamps, many modern facilities are now available in the train. However, this process of development of railways has not stopped yet. It is reported that the railways have started testing ATM i.e. Automated Teller Machine in trains. However, it is not clear when it will be implemented on a large scale.

ATMs in Trains soon?

The Central Railway (CR) has installed an ATM on a trial basis in the Mumbai-Manmad Panchvati Express. Giving this information on Tuesday, officials said that this ATM has been provided by a private bank and it has been installed in the air-conditioned chair car coach of this daily express service. According to them, it will be made available to passengers soon.

Indian Railway's ATM Experiment

The Chief Public Relations Officer of Central Railway said, "The ATM has been installed on a trial basis in Panchvati Express." According to railway officials, this ATM has been installed in a cubicle at the rear of the coach, where earlier there was a temporary pantry. A shutter door has also been installed to ensure security and access while the train is running.

Indian Railways tests ATMs

The official said that the necessary changes in this coach were made at the Manmad Railway Workshop. Panchvati Express runs daily between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in Mumbai and Manmad Junction in neighbouring Nashik district. The train completes the one-way journey in about 4 hours 35 minutes.
