On Thursday morning, a road collapse in Mumbai's Prabhadevi area, near the Dadar region, triggered a state of panic among residents and commuters. The incident occurred directly in the middle of the road close to the Prabhadevi signal, causing a car's tire to become lodged in the sudden depression.

This area, situated near the renowned Siddhivinayak Temple, is experiencing a significant increase in foot traffic due to the ongoing Ganpati festival. As a result, the road collapse added to the chaos during this busy period. A video of the incident quickly surfaced online, drawing widespread attention.

The Mumbai Municipal Corporation has yet to issue an official statement regarding the mishap, but fortunately, no injuries were reported. Authorities, including the local police, have arrived at the scene to assess the situation. Meanwhile, Mumbai Traffic Police have announced via their X handle that traffic movement is currently slow on Swatantryaveer Savarkar Marg due to a large pothole.

Previous incident highlights road safety concerns

This recent road collapse follows a similar incident that occurred on the night of August 23 in the P&T Colony area of Andheri East. A significant hole appeared on the road, which was later attributed to the ongoing tunnelling work for Metro Line 7A on Sahar Road. The expanding hole, situated outside residential buildings, alarmed residents due to the potential threat it posed to nearby structures. As a precautionary measure, authorities relocated nine families from the affected area.
