Car drove over them! Witness recalls drunk driver ramming car into 17 people

After the Pune Porsche car crash, another horrific accident has surfaced from Maharashtra’s Nagpur, where a drunken man drove over 17 people of family belonging to the Bagadiya tribe of Rajasthan when they were sleeping on the roadside. The driver and his friends have been arrested and charged under IPC.

After the Pune Porsche car incident which killed two engineers from Pune, another tragic incident has come to light from Maharashtra’s Nagpur, where a family belonging to the Bagadiya tribe of Rajasthan faced a tragic fate. According to the information, a man allegedly drunk after partying at a dhaba, drove onto the footpath where 17 people were sleeping, in which two people have lost their lives, while another 15 got injured. The incident occurred shortly before midnight on Sunday.

The accused driver has been identified as Bhushan Lanjewar, a qualified engineer, who was driving a Hyundai Verna under the influence with his five friends. They all have been arrested under the Indian Penal Code on the charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and other sections. The group has been remanded to police custody for two days till June 19.

How did the incident happen?

According to the sources, the car first crashed into a car parked there, leading to a tyre burst. Soon after Lanjewar lost control and drove into the footpath running over people.

Eyewitnesses reported that Lanjewar drove the vehicle back and forth over the people sleeping there, in an attempt to escape. One of the eyewitnesses who survived the accident informed us that her husband lost his life in the mishap and the car drove over us again and again, crushing to death before speeding away.

Meanwhile, the police officials have confirmed that the accused and his friends were drunk and blood samples of all six have been sent to the regional forensic science laboratory for testing. The officials also informed the media that the driver was tracked with the help of CCTV footage and vehicle registration number. The car has also been seized for inspection by RTO experts. Now, all six arrested in the case have been sent to police remand for five days. Meanwhile, the investigation into the case is on.
