New Delhi: National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval is scheduled to visit Moscow from September 10 to 11, 2024, according to reports from India Today. During his visit, Doval is expected to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss potential peace strategies aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Participation in BRICS-NSA meeting

In addition to his discussions with President Putin, Doval will participate in the BRICS-NSA meeting. This informal group, consisting of Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Iran, Egypt, and Ethiopia, aims to foster cooperation among its member nations. The BRICS-NSA meeting is an opportunity for Doval to engage in bilateral discussions with his counterparts from Russia and China, potentially addressing follow-ups from the July summit held in Moscow.

Previous diplomatic engagements

The last BRICS-NSA meeting took place in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 2023, with Doval representing India. This meeting marked an important moment for India’s role in international diplomacy, highlighting its commitment to global peace and security.

During a recent phone call, Prime Minister Narendra Modi informed President Putin of Doval's upcoming visit to Moscow. Modi emphasized that the purpose of Doval's visit is to explore peace initiatives following his recent trip to Ukraine. Although the Prime Minister did not specify the exact details of the visit, it aligns with India's broader strategy of advocating for "dialogue and diplomacy" as the path to resolving international conflicts.

PM Modi's recent engagements

In August, Prime Minister Modi's historic visit to Ukraine highlighted India's stance on the conflict. During his visit, Modi stressed that "dialogue and diplomacy" are essential for peace and offered India’s support for mediation efforts. Modi's visit followed his highly publicized trip to Russia, which included a notable meeting with President Putin that elicited strong reactions from Western nations and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
