A 57-year-old woman was narrowly saved from a potential tragedy on Friday evening when she attempted to jump off the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Trans Harbour Link bridge, commonly known as Atal Setu, in Nhava Sheva. The quick actions of a cab driver and the police averted what could have been a fatal incident. CCTV footage of the event, now viral on social media, shows the cab driver heroically grabbing the woman just as she was about to plunge into the sea.Incident detailsThe incident occurred around 7 PM when the woman, a resident of Mulund, asked 31-year-old cab driver Sanjay Yadav to stop the vehicle on the bridge, under the guise of wanting to immerse religious photos into the sea. An unidentified police officer confirmed the details, stating, “The vehicle had stopped on the Atal Setu bridge, heading towards Shelghar Toll Naka, and the woman was seen crossing the railing.”Upon the arrival of the police, the woman attempted to jump but was swiftly saved by the cab driver, who caught her by her hair. Four police constables also sprang into action, leaping over the barrier to assist in pulling her to safety.Post-rescue and backgroundFollowing the rescue, the woman was taken to a nearby police station in Navi Mumbai, where her family was notified. According to Anjum Bagwan, the senior inspector of Nhava Sheva police station, the family indicated that the woman suffers from mental health issues.This incident is not isolated earlier this year, in July, a 38-year-old engineer jumped off the same bridge due to financial stress, and in March, a 43-year-old woman was also reported to have leaped from the Atal Setu bridge.
