Seven Assembly bypolls across six states are scheduled to take place on Tuesday, September 5. It is being conducted to fill seats that have fallen vacant. The 2023 Dhupguri bypoll will see a three-way fight between the BJP, Trinamool Congress, and Congress-Left alliance.Heavy security arrangements have been issued to ensure peaceful polls in the constituency, dotted with several tea gardens and forest areas in Birpara, Binnaguri, and Nagrakata.The BJP has fielded Tapasi Roy, the widow of CRPF jawan Jagannath Roy, who laid down his life in the line of duty in Jammu and Kashmir in 2021 whereas the TMC fielded a professor, Nirmal Chandra Roy, from the seat and the Congress has decided to extend support to the candidate of the CPI (M), Ishwar Chandra Roy, a teacher by professionDhanpur and Boxanagar, TripuraThe Dhanpur and Boxanagar bypolls will see one-on-one contests between CPI (M) and the ruling BJP. Campaigns for this poll were led on Sunday with Chief Minister Manik Saha as the lead for Bharatiya Janata Party on one side and CPI(M) politburo member Manik Sarkar and partys state secretary Jitendra Chaudhury on the other.In Boxanagar, the BJP has nominated Taffajal Hussain, who earlier lost to CPI (M) in the recently concluded Assembly elections.The CPI (M) has fielded Mizan Hussain, the son of Samson Haque, who represented the constituency until his death in July.Puthupally, KeralaThe Puthupally seat in Kerala is on the list of bypoll since former Kerala Chief Minister late Oommen Chandy who held for a record 53 years, passed away earlier this year. Another I.N.D.I.A. ally, CPI(M) has fielded Jack C Thomas from this constituency, while the Congress-UDF candidate is Chandy Oommen, the son of late former Chief Minister Oomen Chandy.Before Oomen Chandy came into power for this state in 1970 CPI(M) used to hold the seat for this constituency and the party intends to win the seat back.Dumri, JharkhandThe Dumri constituency in Jharkhand fell vacant after the demise of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha MLA Jagarnath Mahto, former Education Minister in April.The NDA has fielded Yashoda Devi, who is contesting on the ticket of AJSU with the support of the BJP. While the INDIA bloc has fielded Jagannath Mahtos wife, Bebi Devi.Iterestingly, AIMIMs candidate, Abdul Mobin Rizvi, is also contesting in the bypolss.Bageshwar, UttrakhandI.N.D.I.A. and NDA alliance will be in a direct fight on this seat as well for which the by-poll was necessitated following the death of BJP MLA Chandan Ram Das. Parvati Das, the wife of the deceased MLA has been fielded by BJP who will face Congresss Basant Kumar.
