Noida: The Noida Police, specifically from Sector 63, have successfully dismantled a gang involved in selling stolen cars. The revelation came from DCP Central Noida, Shakti Mohan Awasthi, who provided details about the case.

The investigation was initiated after Nitin Tomar, a resident of Sector 93, filed a complaint regarding his car, registered as UP 15 DQ 3260. Tomar informed the police that his vehicle had incurred two fines of ₹500 and ₹1,000 in Ghaziabad and Alwar (Rajasthan), despite the fact that he had never taken the car to those locations. Furthermore, he received notifications indicating that his vehicle had been serviced, although he had not brought it in for maintenance.

Upon receiving Tomar's complaint, the Sector 63 police registered a case and commenced an investigation. During their inquiries, they discovered a gang was altering license plate numbers on stolen vehicles for resale.

Details of the criminal operation

DCP Awasthi took Tomar's case seriously and assembled a team for further investigation. The police looked into vehicle number UP 15 DQ 9260 and scrutinized all associated payment accounts. They found that the vehicle had been purchased through Cars24, leading to the unraveling of the gang’s operations.

The DCP revealed that significant payments had been made to accounts belonging to individuals named Sandeep, Kuldeep, Abhishek, and Aman, all residents of Palla, Faridabad, Haryana. Following this, the Noida police team visited the Cars24 headquarters in Gurugram, Haryana, to examine all vehicles sold in the last two years that had not undergone RC (Registration Certificate) transfers.

The cloning scheme exposed

The investigation led to the discovery of seven cloned vehicles, whose engine and chassis numbers had been tampered with, and that had not had their RCs transferred. These vehicles were confirmed as stolen, and the Noida police seized them.

During questioning, the suspects revealed that they collaborated with accomplices named Puru, Mohsin, Kundan Giri, Jayant Jain, and Naushad to clone luxury cars stolen from various districts and states, which were then sold to Cars24. The proceeds from these sales were divided among the gang members, while Mohsin, Puru, and Naushad were primarily responsible for stealing the vehicles. Kundan Giri, a former employee of Cars24, oversaw inspections alongside his associate Jayant Kumar, known as Jeena.
