New Delhi: In a decisive action, city officials demolished sections of a bar located in Mumbai's Juhu area early Wednesday morning, just 24 hours after the Excise Department had sealed the property. The Vice-Global Tapas Bar had come under scrutiny after serving alcohol to Mihir Shah, a 25-year-old who is below the legal drinking age, late Saturday and early Sunday.

Consumed alcohol at the bar

Hours after consuming alcohol at the bar, Mihir Shah was involved in a collision where the BMW he was driving collided with a two-wheeler. The crash resulted in the death of 45-year-old Kaveri Nakhwa and left her husband, Pradip Nakhwa, injured. Shocking details emerged from CCTV footage indicating that Ms. Nakhwa was dragged for 1.5 km after the collision before the BMW was halted.

Legal and regulatory violations

Apart from serving alcohol to an underage individual, the bar faced closure for operating without a proper liquor license and for illegal construction on its premises. These violations prompted city officials to take swift action under the provisions of the Bombay Foreign Liquor Rules, 1953.

Legal proceedings and arrests

Following the tragic incident, Mihir Shah, son of politician Rajesh Shah from Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena, went into hiding for over 72 hours. He was eventually apprehended along with his mother and two sisters from Virar, located 65 km from Mumbai. Rajesh Shah, who was granted bail on Monday, has been removed from his position within the Shiv Sena.

Mumbai Police forms teams

Following the crash, Mumbai Police formed 11 teams and enlisted the Crime Branch to apprehend Mihir. A Look Out Circular (LOC) had also been issued against him. Authorities continue to investigate the sequence of events, including allegations of tampering with evidence and violations of traffic laws.
