Budget 2024: President to address both Houses at 11 am today

The much-awaited budget session of Parliament is all set to commence with the addressal of President Droupadi Murmu at 11 am on Wednesday. President Murmu will do a joint sitting of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha ahead of the session. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the interim budget on Thursday, February 1.

The final session before the Lok Sabha elections, which are scheduled for April and May of this year, would feature eight sittings spread over ten days.

Thirty minutes after the President's speech, the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will begin their respective Houses' work. A copy of the President's speech will be placed on the table of each House by the Secretary Generals of the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha.

In the Lok Sabha, obituary references would be made to former MPs Bhadreshwar Tanti and Sonawane Pratap Narayanrao, and in the Upper House, to Hari Shankar Bhabhra and Shrimati Sushree Devi.

All-party meet before session

Before this, the Central government on Tuesday held a meeting under the chairmanship of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh with floor leaders of political parties ahead of the Interim Budget Session of the Parliament.

Prior to the Parliament's Interim Budget Session, the Central administration met with floor leaders of political parties on Tuesday under the direction of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

The Session of Parliament may end on February 9, according to information provided by Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Pralhad Joshi in his introductory speech. "The Session will provide 8 sittings spread over a period of 10 days," he stated.

The Union Minister further stated that while important legislative and other matters will also be discussed, the main focus of the meeting will be the financial business regarding the Interim Union Budget for 2024–25 and the motion of thanks regarding the President’s Address.

In addition to this, on Tuesday, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar invoked the authority vested in him to revoke the suspension of all 11 members of the House, enabling them to attend the Special address by the President to be held on January 31, 2024 on the first day of Budget Session.
