In less than a week, the Border Security Force (BSF) has intercepted five drones from Pakistan and confiscated a shipment of drugs near the Punjab border, according to officials. “On May 22 at about 9 p.m., vigilant BSF soldiers posted in the region heard a mild humming sound of a suspected Pak drone in a location near Bhaini Rajputana Village in Amritsar district,” stated the BSF in a formal statement. The BSF soldiers responded quickly to stop the Pakistani drone carrying the illicit cargo and shot it down. The soldiers discovered a black drone (Quadcopter, DJI Matrice, 300 RTK) and a shipment carrying two packages of allegedly 2.1 kg of drugs during later inspections of the region. A ring made of iron held the drugs to the drone. For easier smuggler identification, a tiny flashlight was also affixed to the shipment.Since May 19, there have been five recorded drone vehicle interceptions along the border of Punjab. At least 22 drones were seized by the BSF in 2022 due to continuing concerns about drugs, cash, weapons, and explosives being transported through drones across the Indo-Pak border from Pakistan. The 553-kilometre-long International Border between India and Pakistan in Punjab region is under the heavy protection of the BSF.
