The Border Security Force (BSF) on Friday arrested a Pakistani national from Punjab’s Amritsar who had inadvertently crossed the International Border (IB) and entered Indian territory.

The person entered Indian territory near the Kamirpura village in Amritsar (Rural) district, the BSF Punjab Frontier said.

“On July 14, 2023, forward deployed BSF troops apprehended 1 Pakistan national ahead of the border fence, while he crossed the International Border and entered into Indian territory, in the area falling near the village – Kamirpura under Amritsar district,” the BSF Punjab Frontier said in an official press release.

BSF return Pak national after nothing objectionable found

After questioning the apprehended individual, the BSF established that he had crossed over to India inadvertently, and nothing objectionable was recovered from him.

The BSF subsequently handed him over to the Pakistan Rangers in the Gurdaspur Sector at about 7:00 PM on humanitarian grounds and lodged a formal protest on the matter.

The press release said that BSF personnel always take a humane approach when dealing with inadvertent border crossers. The state of Punjab has a 425 kilometre international border with Pakistan, which leads to occasional cases of inadvertent border crossings.

A Pakistani national was arrested on June 27 near the Hazara Singh Wala village in Punjab’s Ferozepur district. Similar to the present case, the BSF returned the man to Pakistani rangers after establishing that he had crossed the border inadvertently.
