Both India and the US have repeatedly called for justice for the perpetrators of the horrific 26/11 Mumbai attacks and the Pathankot airbase attack.

These attacks were major acts of terrorism that resulted in the loss of innocent lives. India has blamed Pakistan-based militant groups Lashkar-e-Tayyiba (LeT) for the 26/11 attacks and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) for the Pathankot attack.

The recent call for justice came during a meeting of the US-India Counter Terrorism Joint Working Group (CTJWG) and Designations Dialogue. This highlights the ongoing cooperation between the two countries in combating terrorism.

The Ministry of External Affairs stated in an official release that during the dialogue, the two nations also called for coordinated action against all terrorist organizations, including those that the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) 1267 Sanctions Committee has prohibited, such as al-Qaida, ISIS/Daesh, Lashkar-e-Tayyiba (LeT), and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM).

Ambassador Elizabeth Richard, Coordinator for Counterterrorism at the Department of State, and Ambassador KD Dewal, Joint Secretary of Counter Terrorism at the Ministry of External Affairs, led their respective inter-agency delegations.

"The United States and India emphasized the extraordinary value and durability of the US-India comprehensive global and strategic partnership and renewed their commitments to countering terrorism and promoting regional security as an integral part of their broader bilateral cooperation," the release said.

In order to advance shared security interests within the region and support an inclusive, resilient, free and open Indo-Pacific, the United States and India have reaffirmed their commitment to cooperating in the Quad Counterterrorism Working Group and other multilateral fora and processes, including the United Nations, the Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF), and the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).
