Days after removing some chapters from the class 12 history book, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has made some additional changes to the CBSE books for the upcoming academic year. In addition to this, the Class 12 Political Science book will also see a change in ‘India’s border situation with China.’
There are references to the abrogation of Article 370, the substitution of "Pakistan occupied Jammu and Kashmir (POJK)" for the phrase "Azad Pakistan," and a revision to a paragraph characterizing the Left as those who favor "state regulation over the free competition."
"While most states have equal powers, some states, like J&K and the states in the Northeast, have special provisions," the paragraph stated.
After revision, a one-liner has been added at the end of the paragraph saying, “However, Article 370 which contains special provisions for J&K, was abrogated in August 2019.” The book will see several other changes.
Apart from this, references to Manipur are some of the several changes made by the NCERT in its Social Science textbooks for the academic year 2024-25 and the books will be used by at least 40 million students across the country.
Amendments in the Class 10 Social Science textbook named ‘Democratic Politics’ have also been made. According to the sources, the Council has dropped the content related to the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), the Communist Party of India (CPI) and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) from its Chapter 4. Whereas, references to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the National People’s Party (NPP) have been added. Notably, these parties were declared as national parties by the election commission, last year.
