Crime News: Karnataka's Gubbi police have dismantled a sophisticated racket involving fraudulent marriages. The scheme, orchestrated by a woman who married five men, has been a source of numerous complaints. Authorities have successfully arrested the key figures of this scam, including the bride, her accomplices, and a marriage broker. This criminal network not only operated within Karnataka but also targeted victims in Maharashtra.

Details of scam emerge

The fraudulent activities came to light when agricultural expert Palakshayya reported the scam to the Gubbi police in November 2023. Palakshayya alleged that Komal, the main perpetrator, had deceived him and others under the guise of marriage. According to reports, Palakshayya's son, Dayanand, married Komal in October 2023. The match was arranged by a marriage broker named Lakshmi, introduced by Palakshayya's friend Basavaraju.

Bride disappears after marriage

Palakshayya paid Lakshmi a brokerage fee of ₹2.5 lakh and provided funds for the bride's saree and jewelry, including a Mangalsutra and earrings. However, just three days after the wedding, Komal disappeared. She claimed a visit to her mother's house in Hubli, but after her departure, her phone was turned off and her location became unknown.

Upon investigation, Palakshayya traveled to Hubli and discovered that Komal had vanished. It was revealed that the gang had orchestrated four additional fraudulent marriages. The police investigation uncovered that Komal had previously married another man from Miraj in Maharashtra. The authorities are continuing their search for other members of the gang involved in this elaborate scam.

Investigation underway

The Gubbi police have arrested the primary suspects, including Komal, her associates Siddappa and Lakshmi Shambhulinga, and the marriage broker. The case has highlighted the need for increased vigilance in matrimonial arrangements to prevent such fraud. The police are actively pursuing leads to apprehend the remaining members of the gang.
