The Central Government told the Supreme Court that it has been decided to cancel the score-cards of 1563 NEET-UG 2024 candidates, who were given grace marks. The Center said that these 1563 students will be given the option to re-appear in the examination.

Re-examination for June 23

The Supreme Court convened to address three petitions concerning the NEET UG Result 2024 case. In its verdict, the apex court mandated a re-examination scheduled for June 23, with results expected by June 30. Notably, this decision will not impede the commencement of counseling on July 6. Furthermore, the Central Government informed the court of its resolution to invalidate the scorecards of 1563 candidates who received grace marks. These candidates will have the opportunity to re-appear for the exam, as per the court's directive.

Exam without compensatory marks

Advocate J Sai Deepak vehemently opposed the allocation of arbitrary grace marks, denouncing unfair practices. He emphasized the conditional nature of this decision, contingent upon the pending petition's outcome. Advocate Kanu Aggarwal, representing NTA, disclosed that the decision was reached following a meeting on June 12. The committee has determined that the aforementioned 1563 candidates must undergo re-examination, with their existing scorecards nullified. Those who fail to participate in the re-examination will be required to take the exam without compensatory marks.

Supreme Court raised concerns regarding discrepancies

However, the Supreme Court raised concerns regarding discrepancies in the process, particularly regarding candidates' options not to appear for the re-examination. Aggarwal clarified that candidates who abstained from the re-examination would retain their original marks sans compensatory points, while the 1563 candidates would have the option to reappear. The Supreme Court urged for a thorough re-evaluation of the process.

Insufficient time

The Central Government reiterated its decision to cancel the scorecards of the aforementioned 1563 NEET UG 2024 candidates, offering them the opportunity to re-appear for the examination. Furthermore, the Supreme Court specified that only candidates whose time was curtailed during the initial examination could apply for the re-examination. Additionally, it clarified that the decision would not mirror that of the CLAT examination. Vakis Sai Deepak highlighted the 1563 students who approached the court due to insufficient time, prompting the court to dismiss any attempt to broaden the scope unnecessarily.
